Kaanapali Golf
For the avid golfer, it’s challenging enough to break a club or two. For the recreational golfer, there are plenty of photo opportunities. Regardless of what level you play at, every one agrees, as one carts along the foothills of the Ka’anapali hillside occasionally dipping next to the ocean, playing the Ka’anapali Golf Courses is an activity that shouldn’t be missed while here in Maui.
Golfers look for a well paced coursed that offers challenging and well kept greens. Both the Royal Ka’anapali, dubbed the north course and the Ka’anapali Kai or south course respectively fall equally on the map of best courses to play while on vacation. It received 4.5 stars (out of five) from Golf Digest in its “Best Places You Can Play” ratings, and has been named one of the “100 Best Golf Shops” in the United States by Golf World magazine.
With more than 45 years of tournament history, the Royal Course has hosted many of golf’s greatest legends: Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Jan Stephenson and Nancy Lopez. A Robert Trent Jones Sr., par-71, 6,700-yard layout, the Royal Course combines forgiving fairways with undulating greens while the Ka’anapali Kai Course is a par-70, 6,400-yard course has strategically placed bunkers, contoured fairways, and resurfaced greens. Even if you hit in the rough occasionally (or on every hole), just look up and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of Hawaii’s tropical ocean, islands and swaying palms.
