Aloha Mixed Plate

Voted best plate lunch three years in a row, Aloha Mixed Plate is where one can taste the rich diverse history of the Hawaiian Islands in each bite.

As you walk in to the oceanfront restaurant, you’ll notice the casual seating at the bar, and if your in a hurry, that’s the spot to order a plate lunch to go and grab a drink while you wait. However, if you’re coming in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the dining area is right on the ocean so it’s no wonder there aren’t many “to go” orders! Watch the boats pass by and a sea turtle or two come up for air while perusing the menu. All though they also serve your typical burgers and sandwiches the local plates is where you will taste the combination of Japanese, Filipino, Korean and Hawaiian influence like back in the days of the sugar plantations when they would all share food during lunch time.

For a taste of old Hawaii, try the Lau Lau, with pork and beef wrapped in taro and ti leaves then steamed, but the most popular is the Aloha Mixed Plate, with shoyu chicken, fresh fish and teriyaki beef. The noodles are always a hit whether its the Saimin, served in dashi with char siu pork and green onions or Chow Fun, served with Uncle Louie ground pork, bean spouts and green onion. And don’t worry all you health nuts, they have choices for you too by serving a variety of salads and a tofu stir fry. The Upcountry Garden Salad is a must with its hydroponic Waipoli lettuce, locally grown tomatoes, cucumbers and Leoda’s Kitchen croutons.
