808 Bistro
The atmosphere is lush, green, and the open-air dining gives way to some ocean and tropical garden views, but you would miss it if you were just walking by — which puts 808 Bistro into the hidden gem category of Maui restaurants.
808 Bistro has a BYOB policy with no corkage fees making it one of the few places you can save money while dining on gourmet dishes that warrant a paragraph of their own. Brothers Josh and Jim Richardson, Chad Metcalf and Mitch Edwards took over the venue formally occupied by a Greek Bistro. Their mission was to open a charming neighborhood eatery that served upscale dishes at affordable prices.
Now for the best part — everyone agrees that the Banana Bread French Toast for breakfast is a must, however the Focaccia Egg Sandwich served with fresh basil, tomato, avocado, egg & cheese with choice of meat is another sure thing. Your only dilemma may be having to choose between appetizers with choices like Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese to the Johnny Wellington, which is lamb in puff pastry served with tzaziki sauce, but you can always do a medley and satisfy everyone’s needs as it comes with Lox & Tart, Steak Kabobs and Buffalo Shrimp. Two fan favorites for dinner are the Caribbean Spiced Mahi Mahi with Tropical Salsa and the 808 Pork Chops topped with caramelized black currant onions.
Finish the evening with a Homemade Brownie & Vanilla Gelato or a Mac Nut Banana Foster and my prediction is you’ll sleep like baby and dream of sitting beneath swaying palms and swimming in warm tropical waters — a dream likely to come true the very next day!
